ISRAEL AT FORTY 1948 – 1988

I am currently re-reading this book published in 1987. It documents the establishment of ‘Israel’ and its progress over a 40 year period from 1948 to 1988. The mix of religions has certainly helped create and stir up much of the hatred and fighting between believers of all forms of Christianity, the Palestinians and Israelis, and in latter years Pentecostalism has reared its ugly head. Which god do you believe in; Jesus, Jehovah, or Allah? Did the Israelis/Hebrews really play a part in the plot to kill Jesus?? Bribes are rife with each religion competing for power and money. I for one am very pleased that I am an atheist!! For more insight and the facts as to why this area of the Middle East is collapsing into its own kind of hell, please read this book if you can find a copy. Libraries should have it.

Hello Anne, how are you these days. I hope you are keeping well and safe. Thanks for your views with regards to the book you mention sounds interesting.

The book is very interesting, Rita, and I thought that considering what is going on in the Middle East right now, I’d re-read it after so many years since my first reading. Since then of course, Israel has taken even more Palestinian land!! Paul and I are well, as I hope you both are. We shifted back to new Zealand over a year ago. Our grandchildren don’t need us so much now, and I am going over to Melbourne in a couple of days for two and half weeks to visit children and grandchildren. I last visited them in May this year. Take care my friend. I often think of you. xx

Hi Anne, I didn’t realize you had moved back to New Zealand. Both John and I were thinking of moving back to England but my family talked me out of that because Britain is in such a bad state regarding Medical services as well as everything being far too expensive. They point blank said, stay where you are because we don’t have to worry so much about you as if you where in Britain, of course I agreed.
All my family were here in Crete to celebrate my………..wait for it……. 90th birthday which was great because I had not seen them for almost 4 years due to Covid, other than when we Skype every weekend of course. There were twelve of them here including my first GREAT GRANDCHILD. Whew !! now I feel my age. I also think abt you often, as a matter of fact I started reading your book again “Ishtar” loved it by the way. Are you on Skype still ? If so maybe we could chat there one of the days when you are not busy. Well I will stop waffling on now and say Take care and stay healthy.

Happy birthday for your 90th, Rita. Well done. I am 75 years old now, but I didn’t realise you were that much older than me, You certainly don’t look it. We moved back to NZ mostly because Australia was getting just too busy and too much like the US. We bought a house in a small town not far from Christchurch and the airport, so we can easily visit family over there and vice versa; our grandchildren don’t need us so much now. We have three children living in Australia, and our oldest son lives here in New Zealand not far from us. I still have Skype, so when I get back from Australia in about three weeks I’ll contact you when I get back. I leave tomorrow. Best wishes, Anne. xx

WOW! Indeed, it is a great read. I am currently reading ‘The Other Side of Israel’ written in 2006 by Susan Nathan. She is Jewish but hates what Israel has done to Palestinians, including taking all their farmlands and knocking down their homes. She lives in Tamra near Galilee. Kind regards, Anne.
