THE MUSE OF TERRA AUSTRALIS RIVERINA

*****

Poem  The Muse Of Terra Australis Riverina Copyright To Anne Frandi-Coory  – All Rights Reserved 14 July 2015

Painting River of Life by Anne Frandi-Coory’s brother Bruce McKenzie, who was adopted out at birth.   100cm x 80cm  oil on canvas

**********************

I saw you, a darkened sea

your waters alive and shimmering

yes you, Murray Darling and your

greatest friend, Murrumbidgee

snaking and meandering along

anabranches multitudinous

nature’s grasses anchored deep

gathering around a billabong

SUMMER AT LOLLIPOP CREEK

Painting  Summer At Lollipop Creek  76cm x 61cm acrylic on canvas

A ribbon of lushness

meanders here and there

dark green of banks

water pure and spare

Ancient river red gums

exquisite to my eye

sun drenched ivory limbs

twisting low and high

Oh you majestic beauties

rising up before stooping

your dark eucalypt leaves

long to caress, drooping

Under blue cloudless skies

your full canopy lures

not just myriad birds

all manner of creatures

Songs permeate the air

some strident, some sweet

wings flapping, beaks snapping

still, a peaceful retreat

Softly splashing, happy ducks

heads bobbing to and fro

complete a picture so divine

only Nature could make it so

BATGIRL DOWN UNDER

*****

Painting and Poem Batgirl Down Under Copyright To Anne Frandi-Coory

-All Rights Reserved 21 February 2015

Painting: Acrylic on canvas 76 cm x 60 cm

******

In a famous sunny city Down Under

there played a pretty little girl, one

Princess Amber in bows of frilly pink

blonde pigtails and more than one curl

Amber proudly wore her crown of gems

with her wand she rescued feathered friends

from that dastardly tabby feline, lurking to

pounce, her thoughts on their sticky ends

Then her rowdy brother and his mates

overran the yard, super hero excitement aflame

carrying weapons aloft and yelling, “you are

a girl, we don’t want you in our game!”

TOWARD THE CROSS THEY WALK

*****

Toward the cross they walk

children of the damned

tell me, whatever did they do?

They were born, that is all!

Their mothers were unwed

Oh! shame  Oh! horror

quickly, hide them away

work them to the bone

Pictures of Virgin Mary

paragon of motherly virtue

displayed on workhouse walls

reminders to the decadent

Italian Villa With Virgin

*****

Poem and Painting Italian Villa With Virgin

Copyright To Anne Frandi-Coory All Rights Reserved 20 May 2014

Painting  (Acrylic on canvas 90cm x 90cm)

*****

Beautiful Italy

her fertility on show

vineyards, olive groves

virgins galore

not only fruits

ripe for the picking

every womb

a-waiting a seed

those pretty girls

in terracotta villas

knew their day would come

every womb forced to bear

Dedicated to my great grandmothers: Annunziata Giustina Fabbrucci Frandi and Raffaela Marisi Mansi Greco (Grego)

During research into my Italian family tree I met Italian genealogists and historians who believed that the two great Italian mass migrations were mistakes that  left Italy the poorer.

SAVE HATE FOR HATRED ITSELF

*****

Artwork by afcoory – pastels on Canston pastel paper

SAVE HATE FOR HATRED ITSELF  Copyright To Anne Frandi-Coory

 – All Rights Reserved 10 October 2012

*****

Hate is such an adaptable word

It clings to any person, object or thing

Free to roost anywhere like a bird

Attaching itself to a whim or a prayer

No matter what race, gender, creed

No matter that we all began in one place

The slightest taunt can plant a seed

To kill, maim, torture or subjugate

Reach For The Stars, Little Girl Reach for the stars, little girl Don’t ever settle for anything less Chubby face ‘neath a cheeky curl Saucer eyes everywhere glancing Sweet Amber, you have a beauty so rare Like a jewel that warms and delights As well with a squeal, a smile or a tear You bring happiness wherever you go From a plump little infant you will grow Into a svelte teen, so pretty, so sassy Out of pinks, frills, ribbon and bow To worldly wise; a rose set to bloom Like a refreshing breath of cool sea air On a blue sky’d hot summer’s day You’ll blow away stuffiness lurking there In any winter heart or mind downcast Smiling dimples astride cherub bow lips Oh how they’ll tease, tempt with a pout Many a suitor; he’ll enthral with his quips Romantic and clever to steal your heart A goddess armed with feminine guile Should never be underestimated tho’; You’ll whisper soft words to calm, inspire But within those veins fiery passion flows A beautiful mindset, determination not to lose No mere glass ceiling could ever impede Your climb to the top of whatever you choose So go ahead and reach for the stars, little girl © To Anne Frandi-Coory 2 Jan 2013 - All Rights Reserved

THAT DAY

*****

Poem  That Day  and Image © Copyright To Anne Frandi-Coory

 – All Rights Reserved 16 April 2012

*********************

Was it those intense blue eyes

with the power to hypnotise?

Perhaps it was the gentleness

of your manner, the fineness of your hands?

The caresses that soothed

the spirit we created

around us for all to see

the moment our eyes first met

I think we both knew that day

the future was ours to take

If we but had the courage

to embark on a perilous journey

The passion consumed us

and we were willing to succumb

who knew how it would end

up where we belonged

Many obstacles were thrown our way

our love withstood them all

just to be together, was all we asked

no need for others’ company

I had wings to fly with your love

the wind beneath

you willingly supplied

I could soar with you by my side
